How I wish I could freeze
this weekend in the snow
and save it for a future spring.
Your curriculum of loving:
brutal, simple lessons like,
"You're so beautiful."
But I am a challenging student.
The scars of subpar teachers
cover my ears, my eyes.
Your lips attempt to melt them away,
your tongue licks them off, like the river
carved this canyon over millennia.
We don't have that long.
Erode me in this lifetime.
Whittle me down, make me sharp,
and I will embrace you like
the mountains embrace this valley, forever
holding back the winter winds.
I will uncover your soul,
unearth your lovely strata
layer by layer. Lay you down
gently like a snowfall, silent,
covering the earth in its completeness,
covering all our dark doubts.
